Joining the WTMC just got easier

The christmas newsletter contains details of some important changes to the membership policy.

One of the most important changes is that to join the club, you only need to do two overnight trips.  That means that if you have one weekend jaunt under your belt, you only need to come out with the club one more time to be ready for membership.

Joining the club gets you a whole heap of benefits, it's well worthwhile:

  • Federated Mountain Club membership - a discount card which is worth around $40 discount (over half your adult sub) off your annual DOC hut pass, discounts in a variety of bus, rental car, outdoors shops and hostels, plus a pretty good magazine about tramping at a national level
  • Access to the ruapehu lodge - No better way to take your family skiing/boarding, and I won't stay anywhere else if I'm heading up to Ruapehu.  Save over $30 per person per weekend, and get access to bookings 2 weeks earlier - essential when the season is good.
  • Access to Paua hut - if you like the Paua Hut trips, as a member you can book this hut yourself, and have the whole place to yourself for FREE!
  • Club trips are cheaper - save money every time you go away with the club.
  • Access to more events - the club runs great weekends such as bushcraft, snowcraft and outdoor first aid, these are always cheaper for members and often members-only.

So chances are, you can join right now, or you're only one or two trips away from being able to join.  Have a chat to Helen, our Membership Officer, for more details.

8 Feb - Kangchenjunga School Project - fundraising for schools, medical aid. Cherie Bremer-Kemp, Rob Rowland, Dr Penny Kane and Jamie Stewart will share their stories of climbing, living and working with the sherpas in north-eastern Nepal. Cherie pledged to return to the Kangchenjunga region after local sherpas rescued and cared for her when a climbing expedition went wrong. For the last 20 years she has been working to provide educational and medical facilities and services. The Kangchenjunga area was badly hit by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake late last year which destroyed one the the schools built by the Project. WTMC is hosting this evening to help raise funds to continue this work. Byo donations and friends.
