During and after the Trip (for trip Leaders)
You are the leader, so you are responsible for:
- The safety of those in your party
- The enjoyment of those in your party
- The successful accomplishment of your trip
Leadership Skills
- Try to keep the group together – never leave people straggling behind. You may find in many situations as leader to bring up the rear or nominate another tramper to do this.
- If it is necessary to break into groups of different pace, set a place or time to meet up (no more than 2 hours away). If the conditions become poor (for example fog/mist while on the tops), do not
split the group up.
- Please respect others – you may get a diverse group of people on your trip. Beware; what may be funny to you may be offensive to someone else.
- Enjoy the trip – your enthusiasm will keep spirits high.
- Please be aware of fitness levels and abilities of all trampers – your speed of travel is that of the slowest member. Remember if the trip is graded Medium don't change the route and extend it to
Medium/Fit as some trampers may be just moving up from a background of easy trips.
Use of Huts
Please make people aware of the need for hut tickets or an annual hut pass if you intend to stay in huts …… no ticket = no bunk!
Please respect others you meet
in the outdoors especially if taking over a hut. If another group arrives and you have a fire going, why not get a brew underway.
Transport Money
If you have accepted a tramper on your trip without having paid, it is your
responsibility to recover the money, fill out a form and forward to the Transport Money Officer. Please try to get money to the transport Money Officer before the trip or the latest, the Wednesday
immediately following the trip.
Write a Review after the Trip
- Comments on trips – any difficult situations or safety related issues happening on the trip should be noted with the Chief Guide or Assistant Chief Guide.
- Trip reports for newsletter / journal – why not encourage a tramper to write a report on the trip for the Club newsletter or annual journal.
